Discourse analysis in English Language Teaching, as the name suggests, specifies the work on discourse analysis in English Language Teaching. Discourse analysis itself has been defined in so may ways, one of them is it is a study of language especially on how people use it in real life to do things and to show that they are certain kinds of people or belong to certain groups (Joes, 2012). The basic assumption of discourse analysis is the property of language that are: ambiguous, always 'in the world', inseparable from the identity of the user, always connected to other modes of communication. Linguists has approached this study from various perspective, such as critical discourse analysis, genre analysis, conversation analysis, Multimodal discourse analysis, corpus based, to name a few. 

The expected outcome of this course is articles o discourse analysis that are written by students in groups. The first meetings will be used as a foundation including brief introduction to some approaches in discourse analysis. Students then will be asked pick up a topic and an approach to do the discourse analysis as a project.
